Impermanence

Albany Bowl
Don’t hold on!
Don’t hold on!
In the time it takes to destroy a moment
It’s already gone.
You will always lose whatever you gain,
You will always lose whatever you get.

In death we lose our first gift, life.
The one un-itemizable object
With an Un-labelable price.
For yours’ or others’.
Sometimes they’re the same,
Other times they differ.
No amount of wealth will get you another’s.
You can take it.
You can never have it.

You can silver plate your sperm,
And pad your coffin with your gold.
But what you carry is often heavier than what you have to hold.
So love all that you have,
it may soon be what you had.
Don’t hold on!
Don’t hold on!
Let it go.
It’s already gone.
